I Left Everything To Cycle The World
One Earth, One Ride
Cycling for Water, Biodiversity & Climate Action
I am Md Amir Khan—a cyclist, writer, environmental advocate, and explorer from Dhola, a small village in the Sundarbans, India—the world’s largest mangrove forest and one of the most climate-vulnerable regions on Earth.
Growing up in the Sundarbans, I witnessed the devastating impact of cyclones, rising sea levels, disappearing forests, and water scarcity. These experiences shaped my belief that protecting nature is not only about conserving wildlife—it is about protecting people, cultures, and our shared future.
In 2013, I graduated with Honours in Zoology from the University of Calcutta. In 2017, I enrolled at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, hoping to continue my academic journey. However, I eventually made a life-changing decision: I left my studies to pursue a dream that could not be learned inside a classroom—to cycle across the world with a purpose.
I am also a writer. My upcoming Bengali novel, God Third’s Child (ঈশ্বরের তৃতীয় সন্তান), along with my novel On the Banks of the Betna River (বেতনা নদীর পাড়ে) and my short story collection Blood Drinker (রক্ত চোষা), are scheduled to be published by Tobuo Prayas Prakashani.
Before beginning this global expedition, I cycled more than 10,000 kilometers across India, traveling through mountains, deserts, forests, villages, and cities. Along the way, I lived with farmers, laborers, monks, saints, and ordinary families. I spent nights in temples, mosques, gurudwaras, and roadside shelters. There were days when I even had to ask strangers for food. Every kilometer taught me that kindness exists beyond borders, religions, and languages.
Those experiences changed my understanding of humanity. I realised that despite our differences, we all depend on the same rivers, forests, climate, and the same planet.
That realization became my mission.
On 01 June 2027, I will begin One Earth, One Ride—a long-term global cycling expedition dedicated to Water, Biodiversity & Climate Action.
Over the coming years, I plan to cycle across 195 countries, covering approximately 250,000 kilometres through Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, Central America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, and the islands of Oceania. The expedition will be carried out in multiple phases, beginning with Asia, followed by Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania.
This is not a race. This is not an attempt to break a world record. This is a mission to inspire people to protect clean water, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and global peace through the simple power of a bicycle.
Throughout the journey, I hope to meet students, scientists, conservationists, local communities, cyclists, and people from every culture. I want to learn from them, share their stories, and encourage collective action for a healthier planet.
Every pedal stroke carries a message:
Water for Life.
Forests for Future.
Climate for All.
I believe meaningful change begins when ordinary people choose to take extraordinary steps.
This journey is my step.
If my story inspires you, I warmly invite you to become part of this mission—whether by supporting the expedition, sharing its message, or simply believing that one person on a bicycle can inspire hope across borders.
“I was born in the Sundarbans, one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions. Now I am cycling across the world to inspire action for water security, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience—one pedal at a time.”
